Mean Wiener, Art Bar 03-12-2011

03.09.11

Our pals, the New York Disco Villains landed us a gig at the Art Bar, Saturday March 12th. It’s a Pre-St. Pat’s festival. I wanted to call it Gruberfest and have a day dedicated to Hans Gruber, but that idea got shot down quicker than it took for old Hans to fall from the 25th floor of Nakatomi towers. That’s not to say it’s dead, but I really need to work on my sales technique. At any rate, come on out and get a good round of practice drinking in as well as some face-rocked-off calisthenics for the following weekend. Stretching is so important.

Recording Update

01.28.10

Ok so we’ve been doing some work back in the studio. Last night we finished up the guitars and did some more work on vocals. I think a few more passes and a little back-up vox here and there and we’ll be ready to start mixing.

Below you can see a brief clip of Murley and I performing some “doo-doops” for “Radar” [check out the live version in our downloads section].

We hope to have some more updates soon.

Mean Wiener Recording Day 3

09.05.09

So Murley and I laid down some guitar tracks. We were able to get all but 1 song. The guitar tones are sounding good. William and Ken were on hand and Jay kept our spirits up when we needed the lift which wasn’t very often so he mostly kept quiet in the corner taking pictures.

Recording Day 3

We kept a good pace without sacrificing on our performances. Doing two guitars at once was far less tricky than I had anticipated it would be. We had our half stacks back-to-back so we could see one another which made visual queues much easier. It was like a high-noon rock off. Two rockers enter, only one rocker leaves!

We’re planning to go by William’s this week and take a listen to some pre-mixing he’s done on the drum tracks. If we’re lucky they might have some guitar stuff for us to listen to as well.

Mean Wiener Recording Day 2

07.30.09

So we just wrapped up day two of our recording. We laid down drums for 11 tracks. So far we’ve got radar, heatsneaker, ready, curses, rumormill, maybe, cocoon, moped, girl next door, and hawkman. Five more songs and we’ve got us a  full-blown 2 disc rock opera.

Jay did a fantastic job. The pressure was all on him and he came through with flying colors. Unfortunately, we were fresh out of gold stars to award him so we just gave him the next best thing, a Miller High Life.

We can’t thank the gang from The Thirsties enough. Ken did an outstanding job of keeping our noses to the grindstone. William, Josh and C-Diddy made sure we were well-hydrated and encouraged us to perform beyond our abilities.

As we get some rough mixes put together later on in the month we’ll try to post them up. Up next, everything else. Guitars, bass, and vocals.

Mean Wiener Recording Day 1

07.29.09

Just got in from our first day of recording. So far so good. We haven’t actually recorded anything yet but we’re close to having things set up.

William Stewart and Ken DuBard from The Thirsties are helping us out. They plan on trying out the Glyn Johns drum mic technique. We’re glad to have them help.

Our plan is to do drums first then go back in and do the guitars, bass and vocals. We’re hoping to do as many of our new songs and some old ones that were never recorded.

I’m planning to post up some more of our other music later this week or weekend in the downloads section.

We aren’t sure if we’ll press CDs or just do some kind or Radiohead download thingy. Feel free to send us your suggestions.

That’s all for now. We’ll let you know how tomorrow night goes.
